By the report of The Parent in the City Foundation for the project I work and raise — Motherhood and professional activity almost 70% of moms are afraid that when they return to full-time jobs, they will not be able to combine child care and work in the way they would like. And as we all know, work gives a sense of financial independence, and is an investment in yourself, your future, and your competence. Especially for women who have become mothers-work is an opportunity to realize their potential in other fields than just home-family routine.
Unfortunately, reality shows that many women struggle with a lot of obstacles in trying to return to work. The most common difficulty young mothers face is a change in attitude towards them from their employer and their colleagues. And yet, the fact of becoming a parent does not mean that we suddenly lose all the experience, knowledge, and skills.
Fortunately, the world is changing and many of these changes are visible, for example, in the approach to combining the two worlds – motherhood/parenting with professional work. Keep in mind that the necessary foundation for effective actions addressed to mothers and fathers is an organizational culture that supports parents, e.g., a good atmosphere, flexible working hours, and the possibility of remote work or part-time work. In addition, thanks to the new role, young parents can have a different, interesting, and certainly fresher look at many topics and issues. The perspective changes, and thanks to this, such a person can bring something new to the company’s structures, and strategy of activities or implement new organizational orders.
At KIDS&Co. we support our employees, especially those who choose to become parents. We believe that our pro-family policy can allow capable people to find employment in a friendly environment, gain valuable experience, and expand their competencies. By the way, we try to get as much as possible from their knowledge, which results from the role of the parent.
We decided to ask our employees whether having a child is an advantage in our work. So, let us give them a voice:
Thanks to the possibility of combining motherhood with the work of a teacher, I have more space to implement knowledge about the education and upbringing of my own child. I am also expanding my awareness of education and learning every day. In relationships with parents, I feel the power of empathy, understanding, and the ability to look at challenging behaviors from a parent’s perspective, giving me clarity in what I say — Emilia Nowosielska, Leader of English Coordinators KIDS&Co.2, Deputy Director of Kindergarten KIDS&Co. in Łódź .
Working at KIDS&Co. for me as a parent of a child of preschool age is an opportunity for further professional development in a dream job that follows the child and goes up to the times. At KIDS&Co. I can exchange experiences with other teachers, use modern technologies and take care of the development of my preschoolers without worrying about the methodological background. After a short time working here, I can see that nothing is impossible, and every teacher’s idea sounds like a good plan! To fulfill of course! In the afternoons, I use all the ideas from kindergarten to play with my child, who always asks me what I did at work. Who says life is not fun? In addition, I am glad that my child can also benefit from education at KIDS&Co. because being at work I am always calm about the fact that during this time he is having an exciting time and is safe. KIDS&Co. For me, this is the highest level of education and care, as well as work comfort — Małgorzata Dziekanowska, Kindergarten and Nursery Teacher in KIDS&Co. in Wrocław.
For my part as a principal, I can write that being a mom helps me understand parents and their needs, but also in a more individual and empathetic view of children. I experienced the process of adaptation of a child in kindergarten, so I know what parents can feel and how to support them in this. I see how my child develops going to kindergarten, so it is easier for me to emphasize to parents the benefits of their child being in a group. Moreover, I know what is attractive for children of my daughter’s age, and therefore what songs/materials / additional activities can be used or organized for children at work so that they also enjoy it. As a mom, I am naturally also interested in content related to parenting, so I explore this knowledge and can share it with caregivers and teachers from my team, as well as with parents of children enrolled in nursery and kindergarten — Agata Lubaś, Headmaster of the Kindergarten and Nursery KIDS&Co. in Cracow.
I am a mother of a 3.5-year-old girl who attends kindergarten KIDS&Co. and a Polish-speaking caregiver in the nursery. My child is a great inspiration to me – every day I can observe her play and her reasoning of the world, and she gives a lot of ideas for classes in the nursery. Thanks to the fact that my daughter is close to the age of children from my group, I can use educational materials that I have at home in my place of work (including books and toys). Despite my pedagogical studies and many training courses, motherhood has taught me the most about child development and behavior. I am a parent myself, which also makes it easier for me to understand the attitudes of parents, it is easier for me to advise them and explain the behavior of their children — Marlena Maj, a Polish-language caregiver at Nursery KIDS&Co. in Łódź.
My son attends a local kindergarten in Łódź. During an interview at KIDS&Co. as a kindergarten teacher, I informed my employer that I was the mother of a two-year-old boy, which met with great enthusiasm from the employer. As it turned out in practice, I had no difficulty getting a vacation or a day off because of my child. It also happened that Ignacy came to my work with me. Which employer would allow that? Thanks to the fact that I am a mother, I was able to check how much my classes, and games are interesting for children. Ignacy is my great inspiration and does not let me get bored. Working with children and having my own treasure have developed my interest as a children’s animator. I like to spend time with children because as you know, they learn more effectively through play. Being a mother makes it easier for me to understand the needs of children and their parents — Dagmara Czapińska, Headmaster of a Nursery KIDS&Co. in Łódź.
I have two children (a daughter aged 13, and a son aged 6), the first and most important for me is the mother’s instinct, experience, and knowledge that I gained having my own children, and which I now use in working with the youngest group. There is also a second aspect, equally important for me – we all know that children get sick, we meet at work with the fact that children can be absent for several or even a dozen days a month, so when my younger child gets sick and I need to take care of them, I do not feel judged. It is a very responsible behavior, and although it does not happen often, I am calm enough to be with my child when he needs me the most — Natalia Bródka, a Polish-language caregiver at Nursery KIDS&Co. in Poznań.
