Until recently, working in international teams was an unreachable dream for many Poles. What does it look like now? In recent years, we have opened as a nation to other cultures. Increased interest in foreign travel and even making international connections. Without any doubt, the Erasmus program, which was popular, especially among students, had a very big impact, thanks to which thousands of young Poles were allowed to live, study, and even work in other countries. And it was these people who brought with them a new perspective on Business and cooperation in companies.
More and more young people declare that they would like to work in a company whose main objective is to create an international working environment. And today it is already possible!
Over the past decade, Poland has become an important business center, where prestigious and foreign companies carry out international projects even in several foreign languages. However, keep in mind that working in a place consisting of hundreds of people from different parts of the world requires a lot of flexibility and compromise. Until now, such a working environment was associated primarily with large corporations (and mainly with foreign capital).
And what about educational institutes, such as kindergartens, nurseries, or schools?
In Non-public bilingual kindergartens and nurseries KIDS&Co. we know perfectly what it means to create international teams and cooperate with people from different cultural zones. In our facilities, you can meet people of 26 nationalities. We employ teachers and tutors not only from Ukraine, Belarus, Spain, and the United Kingdom but also from Brazil, Chile, Portugal, Japan, Zimbabwe, Turkey, and even China is also employed. Is it hard? Yes – but the benefits of working in such a diverse environment (e.g., everyday communication with foreign languages, mainly English; getting to know other cultures; openness to what is different, new, and unknown) exceed any minuses. One of the most important professional competencies of the future is intercultural competence – the ability to function in a culturally diverse environment. And this is what we try to teach our pupils in kindergartens and nurseries KIDS&Co.
Working in an international environment KIDS&Co., is an opportunity to establish real, sincere, and warm relationships with people from all over the world. In my kindergarten, in Powiśl I have an international “team” of teachers, children, and parents. I absorb our differences and cultural similarities daily, and at the same time, I discover surprising fun facts about other nations (I also have some invitations to visit). Thanks to these differences, we learn from each other, and our children have an amazing opportunity to meet new friends from New York, The Netherlands, Japan, or Spain. The relationships that we build here – on the grounds of a nursery or kindergarten – will be of interest to them in the future. I can’t imagine working anywhere else! – says the kindergarten and nursery KIDS&Co headmaster in Warsaw, Magdalena Chwedczuk.
It is worth mentioning that the first years of a child’s life are an intensive mapping of reality, the collection of a huge amount of data about the world, and all this data is taken naturally and evenly. In our Non-Public Bilingual Kindergartens and Nursery KIDS&Co. we show children the most diverse and colorful world – thus, we open before them a wide horizon that teaches them to accept differences easier to accept change. Undoubtedly, the method of teaching foreign languages in our KIDS&Co. kindergartens and nurseries, which consists in the complete “immersion” of the child in a foreign language environment (language immersion), helps a lot in this process.
How do you work in an international environment?
Fantastic! – says Aleksandra Rogoza-Piekarska, headmaster of another Non-public Bilingual Kindergarten and Nursery Kids&Co. in Warsaw. In fact, except that in KIDS&Co. it is possible to develop myself, the main point for me to work here was precisely this multiculturalism. This was very important because after almost 13 years of wandering abroad, returning to Poland was not an easy decision. It was hard and took a long time. And the fact that I could in KIDS&Co. have a kind of extension of international experience was and still is extremely important for me. I like to surround myself with people from different cultures and countries. I like to use languages I’ve learned, and I like to learn new things – to look at the world from a different perspective. We can learn a lot from people outside our cultural circle.
Why work in international teams?
Most, if not all, news and trends in business come to us, among other things, from the West. Interestingly, the international team increases the prestige of the company in the labor market and makes it clear that it is open to introducing world standards in providing its services. According to Aleksandra:
I do not hide that working in an international environment is a big challenge that may be difficult for some people. However, I still believe that it is a huge advantage that our children, our teachers, in general, all in KIDS&Co. they can expand their horizons, they can learn from each other, and cultivate this tolerance and openness to what is new and different.
Working in international teams is no longer just the domain of large corporations. Thanks to the gradual opening of smaller companies to foreign markets, more and more employees of other nationalities and cultures appear from year to year. In Non-Public Bilingual Kindergarten and Nursery KIDS&Co. thanks to the international staff, children from other countries do not feel so lonely and alienated – they have support from people who, like them, are from different cultural zones.
I appreciate the work in KIDS&Co. for this, I can communicate in English daily and accompany children in acquiring language skills. For the fact that I hear 6 different languages in the locker room every day! By the way, my knowledge of French or Ukrainian goes to a higher level. I try with each new parent to adapt my language of communication to their needs. I’m ambitious, so I signed up for Spanish to surprise my team. 2 people in my kindergarten are Spanish-speaking natives and I want to communicate with them not only in English. As stated by Magdalena, working in an international environment KIDS&Co. is both a privilege and a pure pleasure!
